Renu Kushawaha, an Indian politician, is a leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and a former state minister of Bihar. She hails from Samastipur.

Biography

Kushawaha was born in Samastipur in 1979. Her father is Arun Kumar. She is a literate who is an active politician. Her husband is Vijay Kumar Singh who is also a politician with allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Her son Vijay Kumar Singh, who was in his mid twenty's was abducted for ransom of Rs 5 million and was killed on 13 April 2014.

Kushawaha contested elections for the Bihar State assembly in 2010. She was elected as a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Bihariganj constituency in Madhepura district. She was made a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Bihar, headed by Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister. She held the portfolio of Industries and Disaster Management and was the only woman minister in the cabinet. Following her husband's joining the BJP, she resigned from the post of the ministry on moral grounds and switched her allegiance to the BJP.
