The Raumanmeri school shooting also known as the Rauman Sea school murders was a school shooting that occurred on 25 January 1989 at the Rauma Sea primary school in Rauma, Finland. It was the first-ever school shooting in the history of Finland, preceding the Jokela school shooting on November 7th 2007, and the Kauhajoki school shooting on September 23rd 2008. A then-14-year-old student at the Rauma Sea primary school shot two of his classmates, a 14 year old and 15 year old boy, using a pistol that belonged to his father. Both boys were sent to a hospital in Turku in a critical condition, and both died later in the day. The shooter attempted to kill a third victim, however the bullet missed. The shooting began at 8am, with police arriving at 8:15am. The shooter fled out of the back of the school, escaping with a bicycle and sleeping bag. Not long after, the shooter dropped the bicycle and sleeping bag, allowing police to use tracking dogs to find the shooter a few kilometres from Rauma, in Eurajoki. Due to the perpetrator being under the age of 15, he never faced any criminal charges for the attack.
