A rat flea is a parasite of rodents.

There are two species:

  • Oriental rat flea (Xenopsylla cheopis), also known as the tropical rat flea, the primary vector for bubonic plague
  • and

  • Northern rat flea (Nosopsyllus fasciatus), a minor vector.
