The state of Rewari was carved out of a jungle-jagir by Ruda Singh, an Ahir noble of Tijara, who obtained it in 1555 from the Mughal Emperor Humayun for rendering meritorious services during the later's encounter with the Surs. Ruda Singh had his headquarters located at Bolni, a small village, 12 km south-east of Rewari. He cleared the jungle and founded new villages.
