Profiles

Range High School is located in Formby, England. The high school caters for roughly 1300 students aged 11–18 (including roughly 250 in the Sixth form). The current headteacher is Graham Aldridge. The local primary schools St. Lukes and Woodlands Primary School both act as feeder schools to Range High School.

The school is one of the few schools in the country to have received an 'outstanding' rating by OFSTED on five consecutive occasions. The school was last inspected by OFSTED in 2013, when both the main school and the sixth form were judged at this top rating. In 2013, the school also saw a record percentage of students achieving at least five GCSEs at A*–C (including Maths and English), at over 84%. This was the highest percentage achieved in this year by any state school in Sefton. In 2015, the school achieved its strongest A Level results ever, with a 100% pass rate at A2 and 58% of students achieving A*–B grades. In 2016, the school was one of only three schools in the local area to achieve a positive Progress 8 score on the new national school performance measures.

In October 2016, three members of staff won Pride of Formby awards - best teacher (Mrs J McGugan), best career (Mrs L Gaskell) and best fundraiser (Ms G Burns). Gill Burns MBE (PE teacher and Head of Derby House) is a former England Rugby Union player who captained for her country four times and was part of the winning England Rugby team in 1994.

Specialist school status

Range High School received Specialist school status in Mathematics and Computing in 2005 following large fundraising activities involving parents, local businesses and The Ogden Trust. Upon gaining specialist status, a grant was provided to the school by the Government allowing investment in new technology and to change the building work, making what was formerly a Geography department into a state-of-the-art IT suite with Interactive whiteboards now in operation in many of the classrooms within the school.
