Rana in Arabic (Arabic: رنا); Persian: رعنا , the name means "beautiful, eye-catching", stemming from the word yarnū يرنو, meaning to "to gaze at longingly". It is a given name for females in Arabic-speaking countries.
In Indian and Pakistani culture, "Rana" has Sanskrit origin and is a given name to males as well as a surname. Historically, it is the given title of an absolute monarch (see: Rana (title)). It is a very popular male name in Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
