While on a climbing expedition in Banff National Park, Alberta, on August 21, 1993, Mr. Pal tried to rescue a friend who had fallen nearly three hundred metres down a steep mountain face. Working his way down to the site where his friend lay severely injured, Mr. Pal left him with some food and equipment. He climbed back to the top of the ridge and decided to use a shorter, but untried and dangerous, route to go for help. Nineteen hours later and after several harrowing mishaps, Mr. Pal reached Moraine Lake where he alerted authorities to the fatal accident.

Raj(iv) Singh Pal is an accomplished climber/mountaineer who has consulted/audited safety while assisting with research on potential impacts of rock climbing. He is a descendant of the Katyuri Dynasty of Askot and currently resides in America.
