Besides being an underdeveloped place, its geographical situation is very good as it is just 591  from Bangaluru,90 km from Belgaum,65 km from Kolhapur, and 50 km to Sangali-Miraj. The market here is so unplanned that, there is always a jam or congestion. The town also is home to two sugar factories providing a large source of employment. A fertilizer factory on outskirts adds another feather to the cap. The villages nearby are famous for their vibrant cultures and arts. A village named Chinchali, 8 km from the town is famous for its female goddess Mayakka, an annual fair which happens here is considered to be the Karnataka's second largest fair after Saundatti Yellamma.

The town also celebrates a grand fair of Goddess Laxmi once in five years.

The climate here in and around is moderate and makes it best for living.

The major clans here are Kurubas, Jains and Lingayat. In yesteryears the place was under the rulership of Shahu Maharaj; the place derives its name with the meaning King and Tiger, for Rai and bagh respectively where latter means tiger in Hindi.

The town has a beautiful newly built Mini Vidhan Soudha hosting several public offices such as Tahasildar, revenue, etc., and official RTO registration bearing KA 23. A major source of transport is Railway, which passes here to major cities of the state and counterparts. The major source of income is agriculture, the rural people growing rich crops like sugarcane, turmeric, grapes, etc.
