It may a variant spelling of Rafe (rayf /reɪf/), an English name for a male, of Old Norse origin (meaning "counsel of the wolf" or "wise wolf"), derived from Raðulfr (rað "counsel" + ulfr "wolf") through Old English Rædwulf.
