The R553 is a Regional Route in South Africa. Its northern terminus is an interchange with the M1 in the south of Johannesburg, Gauteng. It heads south-west as the Golden Highway. It soon forms an interchange with the N1 whose route it then follows for most of its length. From there, it passes through Eldorado Park. It forms another interchange with the N12 and then exits Johannesburg to the south-south-west. It crosses the R554 before reaching Ennerdale. At Ennerdale, it intersects with the south-western terminus of the R568, and then recrosses the N1 at the Grasmere Toll Plaza, continuing to follow it on the eastern side of the road. It next meets the western termini of the R557 and R551 before entering Evaton and Sebokeng. Here it becomes co-signed with the R28 for 9 kilometres. It regains its identity when it reaches an intersection with the R54, but ends shortly afterward at an intersection with the R57 at the northern edge of Vanderbijlpark.
