Pweto Airport

Pweto Airport (IATA: PWO, ICAO: FZQC) is a 2,580 feet (790 m) airstrip serving Pweto, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It lies at an altitude of 3,425 feet (1,044 m) to the west of the main town.

After the decision to start construction on a copper mine in nearby Kapulo in July 2011, the Australian company developing the property began to upgrade the road to the airstrip, which is 50 kilometres (31 mi) or 45 minutes by road away from the mine. The company had no plans to develop an alternative airstrip.

In 2012, construction began on a much longer 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) north-south runway 2.2 kilometres (1.4 mi) north of the original runway, along the N5 road, airport designation unknown.
