Map of Pueblo, San Juan, Puerto Rico

It has a population of 9,391 residing in land area of 0.72 sq. mi. (1.86 km²), resulting in a population density of 12,986.1 residents per square mile (5,013.96 km²). As many other urban centers in Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Pueblo has suffered population decreases throughout the last decades. Considering this fact, the municipal government has proposed (and failed) an urban development plan called “Rio Piedras 2012” which purposes is to redevelop an important portion of the urban center mainly around the “Plaza de la Convalecencia" located in the sub-barrio of Rio Piedras Antiguo (Old Rio Piedras).

Rio Piedras Pueblo is bounded to the West by Hato Rey Sur and El Cinco, with Universidad barrio to the North, and with Sabana Llana Sur barrio to the South and East.
