Pterostylis barbata Lindl., the Bird Orchid or Bearded Greenhood, is endemic to New Zealand and all states of Australia. In Western Australia it grows in the south west of the state.

Pterostylis barbata is a perennial herb that grows to 30 cm, it was first described by John Lindley from collections made by James Drummond and Georgiana Molloy of the Swan River Colony in Western Australia. Its common name derives from the side profile resembling a bird. The plant blooms from September to October, displaying a bright green flower with white translucent panels and fine yellow labellum.
