After the decline of the Kirloskar Natak Mandali company, Utturkar formed the Kalidas Natak Company with Pt. Chandekar. He later settled in Belgaum where he established the first music training school, Anand Murti Sangeet Vidyalay.

His son, Late Pt. Vinayakbuva Utturkar, was one of his disciples, who went on to receive Karnatak Sangeet Nrutya Academy award for year 1979.

Marathi Bhavgeet singer Pt. Gajanan Watwe initially took lessons from Pt. Vishnu Keshav Utturkar (Joshi) at Belgaum before going to Pune.

Renowned harmonium player and performer Late Pt. R. K. Bijapure was also a disciple of him.
