Prunus rigida is in the genus Prunus in the rose family, Rosaceae. It is a hairless shrub up to 3 meters tall. It is broadly egg-shaped or lance-shaped leaves up to 95 mm long, with teeth along the edges. Flowers are in elongated clusters up to 6 cm long.
