Provascular anticancer therapy is a strategy that exploits the differential reactivity of mature tumor blood vessels to increase the efficacy of conventional anticancer treatments (such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy). Based on the identification of an altered regulation of vascular reactivity in tumors, the provascular approach aims at selectively inducing a transient dilation of functional tumor microvessels, leading to increased tumor perfusion, increased drug delivery and increased tumor oxygenation and radiosensitivity.
