There is a subsidiary jazz label which includes Jacqui Dankworth, Jay Phelps, Tony Kofi, Anita Wardell, Alan Barnes and the annual BBC Jazz Awards compilation.

The company is based on an industrial estate in the south London suburb of Beckenham. Proper Music Distribution has won the Music Week Distributor of the Year Award three times, most recently in 2012.
