Promotus Advertising, (from Latin Promotus, meaning: "to advance (someone) to a higher grade or office"; "to move forward, advance"; "to further the growth or progress of (anything).") located in Indianapolis, Indiana, was started in 1983 by Bruce Bryant during a time when there were very few African Americans working in the advertising business and no African American owned agencies.
The company provides strategic planning, creative services, production services, and account management. The company’s objective is to represent each client with professionalism, offer counsel, provide financial stewardship and present the client’s product or service in its best light. The mission is to improve each client's market position.
Background
Promotus Advertising has positioned the agency as an urban and ethnic marketing firm in Indiana. It is a strategy that has sustained the agency. In spite of fact that the company competes with some of the largest advertising agencies in the state and faced some major setbacks over the last 25 years, the agency continues to grow. Revenue increased to just over 8 million dollars for 2008 and the agency has been given local and national awards.
While Promotus Advertising is a minority-owned business, and viewed as an ethnic marketing specialist, it has clients and experience beyond ethnic marketing. Promotus has been able to remain competitive as a small agency by generating solutions and strategies through non-traditional thinking.
Promotus Advertising was selected as a Blue Chip Community Business Award winner for 2002 and holds the title of the oldest and most successful African American owned agency in the state. Bluechip Award Winners, Promotus Advertising is a member of the Indiana Federation of Advertising Agencies (IFAA) and the American Advertising Federation of Indianapolis (AAF of Indianapolis).
