Origins and demo album (2001-2002)

In 2001, Georgian-born Vladimer Sichinava (drums), Gionatan Caradonna (keyboards), and Marco Pieri (bass) founded Mardi Gras Experience, the trio influenced by American progressive rock of the '90s. After a year, the band was renamed to Profusion. Soon after, band added Alberto Riggi (guitar) and singer Alessandro Buzzo. Immediately after Buzzo’s arrival in autumn of 2002 the band began recording of their demo album, “Una Sera A Samperbuio” that was finished in December the same year.

First live activity and One Piece Puzzle (2003-2006)

Soon after the completion of demo, the band began writing new material which was increasingly developing into much more complex songs than those included in Una Sera A Samperbuio. Meanwhile, the band started giving concerts and be known in Valdelsa area, where the band is still active. Soon after in 2003 line-up expanded even more, with the arrival of Fabiano Biagini (flute) and the band’s sound started moving towards seventies progressive rock. In July 2004, Profusion entered the studios to record their first full-length album. The process was plagued by many problems that made it very long and exhausting. In the end, One Piece Puzzle was finished and released in 2006.

Line-up changes and further live activity (2007-2010)

The accumulated stress due to length and obstacles during recording sessions made Marco Pieri and Fabiano Biagini leave the band. After their departure, Profusion was on the verge of dissolution. Fortunately, arrival of Luca Cambi (bass) and Sara Pianigiani (flute, vocals), who had collaborated with the band on One Piece Puzzle, as permanent members, gave the band a new boost to the next phase of musical maturation, which ultimately led to the beginning of the recording of the band’s next album. Meanwhile, the renewed live activity brought the band out around Italy. Notable events include the participation in the Trimis International Festival, where they placed 23rd out of 384 bands from all over Europe in 2008; the MostRock Festival in Siena, where they shared the stage with progressive metal bands DGM and Vision Divine on June 21, 2009; and appearance in 9th edition of La Città Aromatica, dedicated to the legend of Italian progressive rock, Demetrio Stratos. There the Profusion performed with Mauro Pagani (famous for being the original violinist of PFM and collaborating with Fabrizio De Andre, among others). In the beginning of 2010 the band won the regional rock-contest “Megarock”. Fabiano Biagini would return for some concerts as a session member. In 2009, Sara Pianigiani left the band and moved to UK. Irene Conforti (vocals) filled the vacant spot. Soon after, Alberto Riggi had to leave to move to Mexico for personal reasons, replaced by Thomas Laguzzi.

Recording and release of RewoToweR (2010-2012)

In June 2010, the band commenced the recording of their sophomore album RewoTower. During the sessions, singers Buzzo and Conforti were replaced by Luca Latini, vocalist with pop / soul background. The new album claimed participations of international artists such as Simon Hosford (Tommy Emmanuel Band, Virgil Donati’s On the Virg), the Italian jazz singer Titta Nesti and the Georgian jazz singer Maia Baratashvili. In autumn 2011 group signed a contract with American label ProgRock Records and released RewoToweR in the beginning of 2012. In the context of new album promotion the band’s mini tour commences, including appearance on Veruno 2DaysProg+1 Festival, alongside The Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation, IQ and Angelo Branduardi.

Recording and release of Phersu (2013-2015)

The band’s third album saw the light on September 22, featuring special guests such as Anita Rachvelishvili (a world class mezzo soprano) and Mamuka Gaganidze (from The Shin, Georgian jazz/rock band based in Germany). In 2015, Profusion took part in Progressive Promotion Festival in Germany (alongside Mystery and Vanden Plas) and Crescendo Festival in France, with the new line up. Luca Cambi (bass) and Thomas Laguzzi (guitar) were replaced by Davide Pepi and Yuri Maccianti.
