A processor book is a modular card in IBM mainframes that contains processors, memory, and I/O connections. The book concept was first introduced on the z990 machine. Processor books are located in the central electronic complex. Each System z configuration has one to four books. The approach is used to support the high-availability capabilities of the mainframe platform.
