Priyasath dep takes oath as new chief justice


Priyasath Dep PC is a Sri Lankan judge and lawyer and the 45 th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka . He was a sitting judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Prior to his appointment as Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka he was serving as Solicitor General of Sri Lanka. On February 27th 2017 he was nominated by the The Constitutional Council as the 45th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka

Dep was educated at St. Joseph's College, Colombo, where he excelled in studies, athletics, rugby, and soccer. Dep obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies at the University of Colombo. He represented the university in rugby and cricket.

Dep won a scholarship by the Dutch Government that enabled him to acquire a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Law at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. He served as Solicitor General of Sri Lanka from 2007 to 2011 before being promoted to Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
