Princess Inoe (717–775) was an Empress consort of Japan. She was a wife of Emperor Kōnin. She was deposed in 772, because it was said that she had cursed her husband.

Family

Inoe’s father was Emperor Shōmu, who reigned from March 3, 724 until August 19, 749. Her mother was Agatainukai no Hirotoji (県犬養広刀自), daughter of Agatainukai no Morokoshi and her siblings were Prince Asaka and Princess Fuwa.

Inoe’s children were:

  • Imperial Prince Osabe, the Crown Prince
  • Princess Sakahito
  • After the deaths of her mother and Osabe in 775, Sakahito married her elder half-brother Yamabe.
