Royal Musings: The death of Duke of Medinaceli

Prince Marco was born in Madrid, Spain, on 8 March 1962, the eldest son of Prince Max of Hohenlohe-Langenburg by his then wife Ana Medina y Fernández de Córdoba, 9th Countess de Ofalia, eldest daughter of Victoria Eugenia Fernández de Córdoba, 18th Duchess de Medinaceli.

His mother, the previous heiress to the dukedom, predeceased her mother, in 2012. He succeeded as 19th Duke when his grandmother, the 18th Duchess de Medinaceli, died in 2013.

The Duke preserves his family's cultural heritage as Director of the Fundación Medinaceli. He was married to a German citizen, Sandra Schmidt-Polex in 1996, by whom he has two children, Victoria Elisabeth (Málaga, 17 March 1997) and Alexander Gonzalo (Málaga, 9 March 1999); they divorced in 2004.
