Priceline Stadium (formerly known as Netball SA Stadium) is a sporting venue located in Adelaide, South Australia, opposite SA Athletics Stadium, Adelaide's premier athletics stadium. It is a specialist netball facility, hosting matches in the Trans-Tasman ANZ Championship, National Australian National League, the (from 2017) new Suncorp Super Netball (National Netball League), and State League Subway Cup, as well as some international matches. It is also the venue for the Australian Metropolitan Netball League (AMND) Competition, as well as several other indoor sports, including judo and gymnastics.
History
It contains four indoor netball courts, which seat up to 3,200 people, and 26 outdoor courts for more minor games. It is located on former railway yards in the suburb of Mile End. State electricity company ETSA Utilities previously held naming rights to the stadium, which was initially named ETSA Park. In 2015, Priceline Pharmacy was announced as the naming rights sponsor for the stadium as well the premier sponsor for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The venue officially opened in March 2001 as a specialist netball facility in the state, at a cost of AU$11.1 million. This had been sorely needed, as the formation of the national Commonwealth Bank Trophy had meant that the two new Adelaide teams, the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the now-defunct Adelaide Ravens had needed a permanent base with proper facilities, with all prior games being held at the larger 8,000 seat Titanium Security Arena (which had opened in 1992 as the Clipsal Powerhouse, the home for basketball in Adelaide and for the National Basketball League's Adelaide 36ers). It also provided an improved venue for many of the amateur competitions in the city.
Due to the increasing popularity of netball in Australia, as well as the on court success of the Thunderbirds, games such as the ANZ Championship Grand Final, and high profile international games, were held at the 10,500 seat Adelaide Entertainment Centre. However, for the new National Netball League beginning in 2017, the Thunderbirds will again use the Titanium Security Arena as its alternate venue, though international games are still staged at the AEC.
