Location

St Nicolas' Door is situated in the small village of Ervy-le-Châtel, in the department of Aube, in the country of France.

History

St Nicolas' Door was built in the 16th century and was named after a small statuette situated in the center of the door. It is the only surviving medieval door in Aube.

It used to allow the access to the city. The towers of the door were reconstructed in 1837. Some prisoners were brought into the north tower before they were taken into another prison. The drawbridge was changed into a stone bridge.
