Poompuhar State Award is an award given to outstanding artisans every year by Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited. This award is aimed to encourage the craftpersons and improving their standard of living. The Poompuhar award was elevated to the status of a state award in 2002. The Award comprises 50,000 INR, four gm gold medal, citation (thamirapatram) and a certificate.
