Polytechnic Heights is an area of Fort Worth, Texas located on the southeast side. As of 2005, the area has about 12,000 citizens. Texas Wesleyan University is located in Polytechnic Heights.

Known as Poly by locals, the areas main street is Rosedale. The oldest operating business is Burge Hardware, across the street from Texas Wesleyan University. Burge Hardware opened in 1913, and is still in operation as a neighborhood landmark.

History

Developed in the 1850s, the area experienced a golden age in the 1930s as a place for faculty housing for Texas Wesleyan University. Up until the 1960s, the area was middle class and White. The area became more ethnically diverse because of the Civil Rights Movement as many middle class African Americans migrated from the Stop Six and Glenwood areas. By the 1980s the area was mostly African American and low income. During the 1990s the neighborhood experienced an influx of Hispanic residents. The 2000 census recorded 60% of the residents as being of Hispanic origin.
