Polarr is a photo editing software startup company headquartered in Mountain View, California. Polarr was founded in August 2014 by two former Stanford University masters' students, Borui Wang, and Enhao Gong. The company receives initial funding from Pejman Mar Ventures and StartX.

Polarr produces a family of products in the realm of Digital image processing:

  • Polarr Online Photo Editor was released in February 2015 as an in-browser photo editor serving pro photographers. It is one of the first photo editors supporting RAW photo editing in web browsers.
  • Polarr Photo Editor for iOS was released in June 2015. The app is similar to Polarr's in-browser photo editor and received more than 250K downloads within 48 hours of launch.
  • Polarr Photo Editor for Android was released in July 2015. The app is similar to Polarr's in-browser photo editor.
  • Later in 2015, Polarr released Polarr Photo Editor for Windows 10 and a Polarr Photo Editor for Mac OS X with similar functionalities as their online web app. Polarr's iOS app was awarded App Store Best of 2015 in December 2015.

All Polarr's products are available free without creation of a user account. Users will be able to upload photos from local hard drives, the phone camera roll, or Dropbox for edit, and export to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Because it is a web application, which runs on mobile platforms through WebKit, Polarr's mobile applications were able to be built in under two months each.

Polarr is currently building an “intelligent processing engine” that learns the user's style and taste to render high-resolution edits of the user's photos. Besides producing software, Polarr also produces general guidelines for photo editing.
