Poctol has a large mangrove area along river. There are Siniguelas trees (Spondias purpurea) planted in Pontor, one of its sitios. These trees bear fruits during summer, and are being sold largely in Lucena City, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, and other neighboring towns of San Juan.

Origin

Long time ago, this area is a wide forested place. There is a little stream located in the area. People of the place call it Putol na sapa, for a simple reason that they did not know where it starts and where it ends. And one thing that puzzles their mind is that there are many fish in it. During sunny days, the stream gets dry, and the fish and plants in it lost. But during rainy days, the fish and plants start to dwell in the stream. Time passed by, the name of the place was changed. From Putol na sapa, it's now called POCTOL.
