Football death
In January 2009, the school's football coach, David Jason Stinson, was indicted with a charge of reckless homicide in the death of lineman Max Gilpin, who collapsed during practice in August 2008 when the heat index reached 94. Gilpin had a temperature of 107 when he arrived at the hospital, and he died three days later. Stinson resigned pending the outcome of the case, and was found not guilty in September 2009.
