Placid Lake State Park is a Montana state park known for its scenery, camping, aquatic recreation, and fishing on a tributary of the Clearwater River. Park facilities include 41 family camping sites and a boat launch ramp. The lake gained its name from a New Yorker named Hiram Blanchard in 1892 who named it after Lake Placid in his home state. The park, along with nearby Salmon Lake State Park, had the highest visitation of state parks in the Missoula area in 2012, with 45,000 individuals visiting each park.
