Pietro Martorana (1705 – 1759), was an Italian painter, creator of the classic late Baroque painting in Sicily.

Biography

Pietro Martorana was member of a family of artists from Palermo, is one the main representatives of the classic late Baroque painting in Sicily. Stylistically shaped by Gaspar Serenario, had enjoyed training in the laboratory of painting Sebastiano Conca in Rome. Martorana was the author of several frescos in Palermo in the churches of Santa Rosalia, St. Chiara and St. Carlo. Together with Olivio Sozzi, also a student of Conca, has decorated the palace of Michele Gravina Branciforte, prince of Butera in Palermo.

His son Joachim also became a renowned painter in particular for the nobility, that painted some of the princely villa residences of Natoli dynasty.
