Physician dispensing refers to the legal right of physicians to supply their patients with medication directly, at the point of care, instead of going to a pharmacy to fill their prescription.

Across the United States, physicians have the right under their medical license to diagnose, prescribe, and dispense pharmacologic agents. Each state's guidelines vary on which physicians are permitted to, and under what circumstances, provide prescription medications to patients at the point of care. These guidelines are regulated by the State's Board of Pharmacy.
