Phoenix Equity Partners was established in March 2001. The firm's six founders previously worked within Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette's European private equity team.

The group has had major stakes in a variety of businesses including Jimmy Choo, ASCO, Palletways and LK Bennett.

In April 2006, Phoenix Equity Partners was named "Private Equity House of the Year" at the Real Deals/BVCA Awards. Phoenix also claimed the "Mid-Market Deal of the Year" award for its sale of Covenant Healthcare to Electra Partners Europe.
