The Philosophical Association of Japan is the biggest association for philosophy in Japan. The purpose of the association is to "promote the study of philosophy and active interaction among researchers from philosophy, working as a forum to discuss on research, education and the role of philosophy in the modern world." Its secretariat is currently located at Hitotsubashi University. Current president is Yasushi Kato, a professor of philosophy at Hitotsubashi University. The association was established in 1949 by Philosopher Teiyu Amano (Japan's Minister of Education 1950-1951). In 1952, the journal Tetsugaku (Philosophy) was published "with the primary purpose of offering occasions for the exchange of opinions and information about research in philosophy inside and outside of Japan". A new international journal that contains papers written in English, German, and French is scheduled to be published in 2017.
