Philippe buc medieval eschatology and modern american apocalypticism
Philippe Buc (born 1961 in Paris) is a historian concentrating religion and politics, mainly in the European Middle Ages. He has been a Professor at Stanford University (USA) since 1990. He is now working on Christian violence and cultures of violence shaped by Christianity. Buc's book, The Dangers of Ritual, garnered a lot of attention from early medieval historians for its commentary on the subject of ritual. From September 2011 onward he will be Professor at the University of Vienna, Institut für Geschichte and Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung.
