Club career

Taylor started his senior ice hockey career by linking up with hometown side the Canberra Knights of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) for the 2005 season. Pete only played 1 game for the Knights in his debut rookie season. But by 2008 he had established himself as a prominent and permanent member of the Knights squad, playing twenty plus games a season and consistently scoring points for the team.

Before the start of the 2014 AIHL season the Knights folded operations and were replaced in the league by the CBR Brave. The Brave signed Taylor along with many of the former Knights players for the 2014 season. Taylor was given the number 91 jersey for the CBR Brave and was sponsored by Universal Trusses in 2014. Pete had a solid season with the Brave in 2014 contributing 3 points with 3 assists from 20 games that assisted the team in finishing third in the regular season to qualify for the AIHL Finals for a shot at the Goodall Cup, the first time a Canberra based team had achieved this in the AIHL era. Pete played in the semi-final match against the Melbourne Ice but the Brave lost the match 1-6, ending their season.

After a coaching staff change at the Brave in the middle of the 2015 AIHL season which saw the club part company with Brad Hunt and replace him with Josh Unice and Aaron Clayworth, Taylor was promoted to the senior player leadership team and made alternate captain along with Jimmy Byers.

International career

Taylor was first selected to represent Australia in 2007 where he joined the Australia U20 national team to compete in the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships Division II Group A tournament being held in Miercurea-Ciuc, Romania. Australia finished sixth (last) in the group which consisted of Hungary, Iceland, Spain, Romania and Croatia and was relegated to division III for the next year. Pete ended the tournament with one point, from an assist, and a plus-minus of –10.<

Personal life

Peter Taylor was born on 29 June 1988. Pete’s brother, Darren Taylor, also played hockey in the AIHL for the Canberra Knights and CBR Brave.
