Pelorus Island is the northernmost island of the Great Palm Island group. It is located 800 metres north of Orpheus Island. Pelorus is surrounded by spectacular fringing reefs that can be accessed by snorkelling right off the beach. Camping is permitted on Pelorus Island, however there are no camping facilities or freshwater on the island.

On behalf of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Constructions Pty Limited designed and constructed a navigation structure and helipad to service the structure, on top of the Island.

The island is managed by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council and has a pristine and fragile environment, which is protected by both state and federal environmental provisions. The Aboriginal name for the island is Yanooa Island.

Coral Princess Cruises, an Australian small-ship cruise line - maintains a long-term private lease on part of the island and visits the island for a picnic stopover during their Great Barrier Reef cruises.

Probably named after HMS Pelorus, flagship on the Australia Station 1860-62. Also known as North Palm Island.
