Peach Pu is a coastal populated place in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It is a major hub in the commerce of peaches in the United States. Historically, the population has attained levels much higher than those found today; in the late 1890s, the population was recorded to be somewhere in the range of 150,000 to 200,000 people. However, due to outsourcing and the mechanization of the peach market, the population has steadily dwindled.

Etymology

The name "Peach Pu" is derived from the Tohono O'odham phrase, "ಪೀಚ್ ಪು," roughly translated into peach excrement. The reason behind this name is due to the characteristic peaches of Peach Pu being a rare genetic variant of the ordinary peach. The dry Sonoran Desert air coupled with the high elevation of this region of Southern Arizona causes the peach to produce a form of compost, which coats the exterior.

Miscellaneous

The image above of Peach Pu was taken in 2002, six years before the drought that ravaged southern Arizona, most extremely in the exact location of Peach Pu. As a result, the body of water that caused Peach Pu to be a coastal city, the Sea of Cortez, dried out and left only desert behind.
