Paul Panayi B Sc; LL B(Hons)[1] (born Panayiotis Panayi) is an Australian Barrister and former Australian Diplomat.

Career

He was first called to the Queensland Bar in 1995, where he practiced until 1998. In 1999 he was invited to enter into the service of the Commonwealth of Australia as an Australian Diplomat. He served as a diplomat [2] from 1999 to 2004 including in the positions of Director of International Law [3], Director of Maritime Law [4], Director of the Australian Treaties Secretariat [5] and Senior Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.[6]

Mr Panayi has appeared on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia, together with the Solicitor-General and Chief General-Counsel of Australia, before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, in the Russia v Australia case [7] (Re Volga illegal fishing vessel). He has also been involved in international trade arbitration cases.

Paul submits a weekly restaurant review for MCV (Melbourne Community Voice) newspaper. [8]. He currently resides with his partner in the affluent Melbourne suburb of Toorak.
