Career

McNally began his league career at St Francis F.C. in season 1996/97 under Pete Mahon before moving in 98/99 to Longford Town where Stephen Kenny was his boss.

At Longford he scored in the relegation/promotion play-off 2nd leg away to Finn Harps, which ensured the tie went to the penalty shoot-out which Longford went on to win 6-5 with the McNally converting his penalty to gain Longford promotion.

Whilst at Longford McNally played against PFC Litex Lovech in the UEFA. Longford took an away goal advantage into the second leg in Bulgaria but two last minute goals from Zoran Yankovich ended Longford's run, with the Bulgarians winning 3-1 on aggregate.

Kenny brought him to Bohemians in the summer of 2002 on a three year contract and there he won a League title that season. During this time McNally played against Estonian side Levadia Tallinn in the UEFA Cup.

International representation

Whilst at Longford, McNally was selected to represent Ireland in an All-Ireland League XI during an international tournament against England, Scotland and Wales.
