Paul H. Irving is a social sector leader and entrepreneur focused on changing the culture of aging. As founder and chairman of the Center for the Future of Aging at Milken Institute and USC Davis School of Gerontology distinguished scholar in residence, Irving speaks, writes and convenes influencers in health, business, academia, philanthropy, media and other domains who are committed to redefining the public narrative about the roles and value of older adults. Irving's work has drawn increasing attention from across the country and the world. In 2016, PBS Next Avenue described him as "a key driver of the purposeful aging movement."

Irving is the author of The Upside of Aging: How Long Life Is Changing the World of Health, Work, Innovation, Policy, and Purpose, Irving is an expert panelist at Wall Street Journal and a contributor to Huffington Post, Forbes and other major media outlets. Irving regularly presents to U.S. and international university audiences, business conferences and associations, policy groups and nonprofit organizations about health, productivity and purpose for older adults, and investment, innovation and opportunity in the longevity economy.

At the Center, Irving developed and leads the widely followed Best Cities for Successful Aging project, a report that measures U.S. cities based on how well cities enable older adults to fulfill their potential. He also launched the "Mayor's Pledge" initiative, asking U.S. mayors to do more to make their cities work effectively for an aging population and to provide older residents with the opportunity to apply their wisdom, knowledge and experience to contribute to their cities in new ways.

A native of Los Angeles, Irving is part of the Los Angeles City and County Purposeful Aging Los Angeles steering committee. Irving is vice chair of Encore.org and serves on the board of directors of the American Society on Aging. He has memberships with USC Davis School of Gerontology Board of Councilors, Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute Advisory Board, Global Coalition on Aging Advisory Council and the Health and Housing Advisory Council of Bipartisan Policy Center.

Irving also serves as East West Bancorp director, a public bank holding company.

He was a participant at the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. In 2014, Affordable Living for the Aging honored Irving with the Janet L. Witkin Humanitarian Award.

Irving was previously president of the Milken Institute, a Harvard University Advanced Leadership Fellow and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips chairman and CEO. In three decades as a corporate lawyer, Irving represented leading companies and investors in mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions and a wide range of business and financial industry regulatory matters. Known for his commitment to pro bono services, Irving was recognized for many years by The Best Lawyers in America, named a "California Super Lawyer" by Los Angeles Magazine, "Manager of the Year" and one of the "Legal Stars in California" by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and rated "AV Preeminent" for professional excellence by Martindale-Hubbell. He was also a Loyola Law School adjunct professor where his great contributions to law and society earned him the Board of Governors Award.
