The pat waing is a set of 21 drums in a circle, traditional from Burma. The player sits in the middle of a horseshoe-shaped shell made of elaborately carved wood and decorated with gold leaf. The drums are played with the bare hands.

Originally known as the Saing Waing because the drums were hung on wooden planks (Saing meaning hung in Burmese and Waing meaning drums), they are now generally referred to as Pat Waing, Hsaing waing only used when referring to the drums as part of an orchestra.
