At the age of 17, Paris Dunn became a victim of a catfish scandal which also involved NBA player Chris Anderson. All this began when young Paris started flirting with pro-athletes online to gain attention. In one such attempt, Paris thought that she has caught the attention of NBA star Chris “Birdman” Andersen on Facebook. 33-year-old Andersen was playing for Denver Nuggets back then.

Dunn received a message by Andersen's name saying "Hey, I see you are a fan". Though skeptical, an excited Paris could not hold back her emotions and started interacting with him. The Facebook chat soon progressed to emails, text messages and exchange selfies. Paris said that she received selfies from Andersen that showed him around his house and posing with his pitbull, convincing her that she was actually talking to the real Andersen. Their talks soon took a romantic turn and the two began dating virtually. Days later, Dunn started receiving messages from another guy named Tom Taylor who claimed to be Andersen's best friend. On the other hand, Dunn kept talking to Andersen over messages and their relationship soon turned x-rated. They both started sharing nudes with each other. Later, Taylor insisted Dunn that as she really likes Andersen she should meet him in person. Taylor also said that he will set up a meeting for both of them.
Upon thorough investigation, it was found out that both Dunn & Anderson has been a victim of the catfish scandal. The case was investigated by ICAC. It was discovered that their messages were being altered and modified by a third person named Shelly Lynn Chartier. She had also created fake profiles for both of them.

Authorities also discovered that Shelly Chartier had not only been “catfishing” Andersen and Dunn, but that she allegedly had been tormenting 11 victims over three years, making numerous Facebook pages impersonating a YouTube comedian, a Playboy Playmate, and even reality TV star Brody Jenner. She was arrested in January 2013.
