Etymology

Contrary to popular belief, the word Panducot did not came from the Filipino word pandúkot (something you use to grab; dúkot, grab). Instead, the name came from the contraction of the words pandán (pandan, a variety of screwpine common in the Philippines and used in Filipino cuisine as flavouring) and dúkot. This is due to the fact that the barangay is mainly agricultural.

Population

The barangay is among the least populated in the municipality, with around 2000-3000 depending on the source of the data.

Politics

The present barangay chairman is Ariel S. Aguilar (elected October 2013) against Andy Sanchez.

Other barangay officials include the following:

Councilors (Kagawad ng Barangay)

  • Mamerto Ablaza
  • Julius Guinto
  • Tess Juguilon
  • Alex Vivar
  • Secretary: Henry Perez
    Chief of Staff: Narding Zamora

The Barangay Chairman is allied to the Liberal Party.

    Education

The barangay has a public elementary school located at Purok 4, Panducot Elementary School (PES). Residents would usually go to Sta. Lucia Natl. High School for secondary education and to Bulacan State University for tertiary education.

    Panducot Elementary School

PES was first established as a 4-grade elementary school. Prior to its establishment, residents would usually go to Meyto Elementary School in the neighboring barangay of Meyto.

In 2010, Panducot has been ranked as the 3rd most child-friendly school in Region III. The school has been heavily damaged the same year due to typhoon Ondoy.

The office of the principal is currently vacant, though Mrs Toribia Ablaza is currently the Teacher-in-Charge.

    Religion

Majority of the residents are Aglipayans. Together with Meyto, it is one of thd two barangays in Calumpit that are predominantly Aglipayan and not Catholic; though there exists a significant minority of Catholics in the barangay. Other Christian denominations however form a significant majority. The feast day is celebrated in November 21 each year in honor of the patron saint Mahal na Birhen Presentación.
