PAMVICKS in an acronym for Point, Aim, Muzzle, Vehicle, Instruct, Clear, Knowledge, and Sling which are the basic guidelines for the safe handling of weapons in the British Army Cadet Force (ACF)

Point
Never point a weapon at another person, under any circumstances.
Aim
The weapon must be aimed in such a direction that there is no danger if a round is accidentally fired.
Muzzle
The muzzle of the weapon must never be rested against any part of the body.
Vehicle
The weapon must be in the unloaded state prior to travelling.
Instruct
Never approach a weapon and only operate a weapon when instructed to do so.
Clear
Make sure that the weapon is clear before handing to an instructor or fellow cadet, and insist that the cadet demonstrates this.
Knowledge
A cadet must not handle the weapon unless they are trained it its use.
Sling
The sling is to be fitted at all times unless stripping and assembling is in progress, or during non-tactical movements on foot.
