In general relativity and tensor calculus, the Palatini identity is:

δ R μ ν = ( δ Γ λ μ ν ) ; λ − ( δ Γ λ μ λ ) ; ν

where δ Γ λ μ ν denotes the variation of Christoffel symbols and semicolon ";" indicates covariant differentiation.
