The Pennsylvania Railroad A3 is a 0-4-0 class steam locomotive that worked for the PRR, These locomotives were built by Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Shops from 1895 till 1905. These Switchers were used to shunt and sort out railroad cars at the PRR yards. These were early examples of a Yard Switcher. Some were even Converted to A3a's, Which were another Version, but a Saddle Tank. These engines were retired by the much larger PRR A5s in the 1920s. Because many Railroads in the United States were Retiring their 0-4-0's like the A3, because they were too Small to Move Heavy Freight Cars. The A1's, A2's, and the A4's were replaced by the Much larger A5's as Well. Ever since the A5's took Over for them, None were Preserved.
