P. David Searles was the Philippines country director for the Peace Corps (1971–74), and Regional Peace Corps Director for North Africa, Near East, Asia, and Pacific (NANEAP) (1974–76). From 1976-80 he was Assistant Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
He served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps during 1955-58, and also spent some time as a businessman and teacher. He earned a Ph. D. from the University of Kentucky in 1993. He is the author of A College For Appalachia (University Press of Kentucky: 1995) and The Peace Corps Experience (University Press of Kentucky: 1997), both by The University Press of Kentucky.
