Orville James Victor (October 23, 1827 – March 14, 1910) was an American theologian, journalist, editor and abolitionist. He is cited as the originator of the dime novel. During the American Civil War he wrote two books: History of the Southern Rebellion and History of American Conspiracies.

Victor was born in Sandusky, Ohio. He wrote for the Sandusky Daily Register, the Cosmopolitan Art Journal, the United States Journal and the New York Saturday Journal. In 1863 he visited England and published a pamphlet there entitled "The American Rebellion: Its Causes and Objects."

He married Metta Victoria Fuller, an author, in 1856. She died in Hohokus Township, New Jersey on June 26, 1886.

The now-defunct Orvil Township, in Bergen County, New Jersey, was named in his honor in 1885.
